Scaling / Root Planing
Scaling and root planing, often referred to as a deep cleaning, is a non-surgical dental procedure aimed at treating and preventing gum disease. Plaque and tartar build-up on the teeth and below the gumline can cause inflammation and infection if not properly addressed. In the scaling part of the procedure, special dental instruments are used to meticulously remove this build-up from the tooth surfaces and beneath the gums. Following the scaling, the root planing process begins. This involves smoothing the roots of the teeth to help the gums reattach, promoting healing and preventing further plaque and bacteria from accumulating beneath the gumline. This two-part procedure is an effective way to halt the progression of gum disease, protect your oral health, and maintain a clean and healthy smile.
